My mother (84) to a fall in her apartment, broke wrist(none dominate hand) an waited to tell us the injury.  Now has had surgery to correct an mend wrist.  This has quickly allowed me to see what is coming.  She now depends on me much more. Her independence is challenged, an she finds herself more easily frustrated.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I think its especially important that she waited to tell you about the injury – I’ve had the same problem with my dad who is very PROUD and doesn’t want to admit he needs help. I think it must be so frustrating to lose your independence like that.

Wish there was some way to tell them there’s no SHAME in needing help.

I had the same with my mother.  She would fall and be on the floor all day.  I finally moved her in with me a month ago.  She’s great, but some days has nothing nice to say about myself or my husband.  All wonderful things are said about my brother who hasn’t seen her since she moved in with me.  I’m pretty good most days, but then there’s a day of despair…  It’s hard, but worth it..
